Antti Nurmesniemi: Enamel Coffee Pot

These enamel coffee pots were designed in the late 50′s by Finnish designer Antti Nurmesniemi for Arabia made by Finel. It is an absolutely classic design but the auction prices for his pots are usually around $100-$200, which is little too much for me to pay.

The pot comes in two different sizes and colors which includes: red, yellow, brown, blue, dark blue, and white. These colors were selected by his wife Vuokko Eskolin.

Here are some very similar enamel coffee pots that the Japanese company ‘Noda’ manufactures. Everything from the design and proportion is identical except for the handle. Though it come with different colors, I would probably go with white. This adds to the list of items on my wish list for my trip next month.

Kauniste: Handprinted Textile Calendar

I discovered this adorable hand-printed textile calendar for 2011 from Finnish company Kauniste. “Kauniste was established in 2008 in Helsinki, Finland. Their textiles are inspired by Finnish kitchen linens from the 60′s and 70′s and their aim has been to create a product that can be used and cherished for as long as those classic Scandinavian designs from decades ago. All Kauniste textiles are hand printed in Finland.”

The cat’s face changes each month. I can see this looking great on either a wall or a fridge. Since this is a new item, I don’t see any online store carrying it yet, but I will keep my eye on this website to see when it becomes available.

Their other items such as the kitchen and tea towels with playful graphics are also cute. Here is a interview of a designer of Kauniste, check it out!

Black and White Modern Globe

Next month I will take a short trip to Japan. I never usually leave there empty handed so I already have a wish list in mind. One of the items on that list is this  stylish globe called ‘Corona’ that was designed by a Japanese design firm called Nendo.

I’ve been looking for a graphically simple globe that contrasts my current vintage globe collection to display in my working space. “nendo wanted to create a new globe which was more graphically emotional, rather than just simply an object which presents information. by reducing the amount of information shown and rendering the oceans and bodies of water in white and landmasses in black, the corona globe highlights the reliefs of islands and coastlines. the globe’s stand should complement the globe itself, so nendo created a gentle curve that recedes rather than stands out, powder-coating the steel for a clean finish that blends with the globe’s lustrous surface.”

KITKA posted a beautiful picture showcasing the string bookshelf with this Corona.
