Nils Strinning: String Furniture

One of my favorite furniture I own is my Tomado shelf from Holland and today I found an amazingly similar book shelf designed by Swedish designer, Nils Strinning in 1949. This is a larger unit that carries characteristics that reminds me of the Tomado shelf such as the thin wood, and the ribbed black sides. This piece is very modular and can be altered to you preferred composition.

It is not surprising that his shelf has been popular for over 50 years because of these simple, practical and functional design. Unfortunately Nils Strinning passed away in 2006 but his legacy lives on and you can still purchase his work here! (Non-US though) The picture above is his iconic shelf, String.

This one is his another shelf called cell. It uses slightly different pieces than the String, but it functions the same way where you can manipulate the position of the shelves to your liking.
