Affordable Mid-Century Furniture @ CB2

I just received the latest CB2 catalog a few days ago. As soon as I flipped the pages, I noticed they had some mid-century inspired furniture. The new collection is called the ‘mid-century redux’ which includes a wardrobe, a dresser and a night-stand.

What I like most about this is how they use hairpin legs with very simple walnut wood. If you are living in the LA area, check them out at their only retail store: 8000 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90046-2422.

Hotel Jested in Liberec, Czech Republic

The Jested tower hotel is one of the most interesting place to stay. It is sitting on top of the Jested mountain in the Czech Republic. The exterior has sort of a futuristic spaceship-like vibe while the interior reminds me of something from a James Bond flick. I believe the outside is the original design but the interior was updated in the 90′s.

Artemide Nesso Table Lamp

Above is the Nesso table lamp Designed by Giancarlo Mattioli and is from the Armetide Classics line in 1967.

The lamps are available in either orange or white. The top is a diffuser for the incandescent lighting. It’s hard to choose between this and the mushroom lamp we posted earlier.

Hillside Homes on Flickr
I found on Flickr some nice illustrations from a Magazine called Hillside Homes. In this issue they go over homes in Portland Oregon that were built specifically on hills. Some photos of the houses would be nice but I think that these illustrations do a great job of presenting the home in their environment. Oregon seems to be a hot spot for nice mid-century homes. One of our favorite homes from a previous post was located there.

Wrap House by Future Studio

I found a very conceptual and semi mid-century influenced house in Hiroshima, Japan. The house is called ‘Wrap House’, and is designed by the Japanese architect company FUTURE STUDIO. Although it is not mid-century, it certainly carries the characteristics of a midcentury home including beamed ceilings, boxy design, large windows, and lots of natural lighting.
According to the source: ‘WRAP HOUSE’ is grouping and wrapping the three elements sunlight, spacious sense and privacy to enrich the living space. The site is located in a flat residential quarter in the Southwest of Hiroshima City.

‘Three buildings is constructed from timber and clad in black galvanised steel plates.’ I wonder how much it was to construct this house.
