300 miles to George Nelson Frame Sofa

george_nelson_frame_sofa_01

This is the first time to reveal our home on the blog. It’s kind of nerve racking because it’s such an ordinary small place. We just wanted to show something exciting we picked up this past weekend! On Sunday we drove 300 miles down to San Diego to welcome this absolutely beautiful and timeless piece, the George Nelson steel frame sofa. Some of you may remember our previous post, so our promise was fulfilled! The kind people of Le Boeuf saw our entry and contacted us about the availability of the sofa. Without hesitation we decided to go take a look.

The previous owner had it for 15 years, and it is the original George Nelson for Herman Miller production from the 50′s. This picture was shot in the morning, which was the only time during the day we had so we apologize for the quality. We changed the whole layout of our living room, and surprisingly it fits our small space. We are really excited for this piece and would like to thank Le Boeuf . We promise to take great care of it!

ace_hotel_01

We just made a decision to go to the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs this Thanksgiving. The place features a super mid-century architecture that used to be a Howard Johnson motor Lodge in 1965.  They renovated the whole buildings but it still remain beautiful.

Modern Revival

port_01

I recently ran into this article where a couple from Portland totally restored a midcentury home by hand. From the furnitures to the tasteful selections of textures and color, I’d say that this is a wonderful accomplishment. I can imagine how much fun it was for them to work on something like this. Definitely on my dream to-do list.

Eames Hang-It-All Coat Rack

eames_hangitall_01

The “Hang It All” rack is my very first item from the Eames collections. I still remember the time when I bought this at Modernica in SOHO, New York in 1997. It is now selling for around $200 but back in the 90′s, it was only $89!

“The Hang It All rack was designed by Eames in 1953 and is produced by Herman Miller. Charles and Ray Eames brought a sense of play to all their work, including the Hang-It-All which is a modern coat rack. The Eames Hang It All took the everyday coat rack to a new place that was inventive, eye-catching and fun. More than just a conversation piece, the Hang-It-All holds anything that slips over its colorful hooks. The solid maple balls are painted in nine bright colors. The frame is made from white powder-coated welded steel. This is a very practical rack. This modern rack holds hats, umbrellas, robes, jackets, scarves, skates, backpacks, and more.”
