A. Quincy Jones Ranch Home, Culver City

quincy_jones_01

When I first heard About this house I was shocked to find out that the man who produced one of my favorite album “Thriller” was also into mid-century homes.  I was excited for the fact that whoever buys this home will not only get a chance to live in such a beautiful ranch property but also gets a chance to live in a home that used to be owned by a legendary record producer.  Little did I know the Quincy Jones I was thinking about turned out to be a totally different person who was actually the architect of this house. This 4 Br and 2 Ba house was built in 1958 and is now on the market for 725,000.

According to the listing it says:

“Stunning restored mid-century modern home, designed by Eichler Homes architect in quiet Culver City adjacent neighborhood. Very spacious and light, open floorplan with 4 bedrooms and two full baths. Concrete floors, original woodwork, solar heated saltwater pool, pool fence, plenty of storage, outdoor shower, professionally landscaped front and back, HE appliances, updated systems, case study wood burning fireplace and much more.”

Alexander Girard From DWR

AX_02

These beautiful Wooden Dolls were a gift to my wife this year.  I only intended to buy one but I couldn’t let one doll stand all alone so I bought it some friends:P They were originally handcrafted by Alexander Girard in 1963 for personal use in his house in Santa Fe. I love the fact that they can either be a home decoration or a toy. It never went into production in the 60′s but it was recenty reproduced.

I got these from DWR.

It is well packaged in a wooden box along with an informative brochure that makes it feel more precious. They have a huge line of wooden dolls but I believe more are still to come. I hope one day to see the original in the Vitra Design Museum.

George Nelson Night Clock

george_nelson_night_clock

This is the latest George Nelson clock I recently got. It was designed in 1948 and is made by solid brass and acrylic glass which makes it quite heavy. Nevertheless it’s weight is what make it feel high quality. I love the simplicity of the design and color scheme.
