Current Obsession: Leather Round Mirror

I’ve always been aching for a timeless and minimal designed mirror that will possibly replace my Charlie Harper poster on my living room wall and once I discovered BDDW‘s “Captain mirror” in ELLE magazine, I knew it was the one. The structure of the mirror is quite simple where it is wrapped in a distressed leather with a machined bronze hanging puck.

After some research, I’ve got to know that the first leather round mirror was introduced by a French furniture designer, Jacques Adnet in the 50′s.

“In 1950, Adnet formed a partnership with the French fashion house, Hermes, where he developed a collection of leather-covered furniture and interior accessories. Accordingly, he made a round leather mirror with brass hinges. Besides the remarkable leather and brass details, the mirror is also unique as the strap that holds the mirror is in direct proportion to the dimension of the mirror.” (via Gubi)

Ta-dah! Here is the result. It’s actually a photoshop mockup of my living room with Jamie Young’s round hide mirror which is a much more affordable version. If I have enough time, I’d probably attempt this DIY project, since the original Adnet mirror goes for about $2,800.

Collected by Jason Koharik

I recently stumbled upon a blog by the furniture store Lawson-Fenning and found beautiful lamps designed by artist Jason Koharik. Jason is a Los Angeles based artist who is an interior designer, electrician, contractor, carpenter, craftsman, and a collector.

“The Collected by lamp series is inspired by the beautiful sweeping lines and modeled forms of the Art Nouveau period and early French Modernists. The series represents a “New Nouveau”. Each lamp is a one of a kind sculpture made with a variety of reclaimed and recycled materials that show age and marks from its maker. Each is hand crafted and hammered in effort to create a unique and nostalgic piece that can settle comfortably in a modern environment. ”

I’ve always been attracted to these style of lamps including Serge Mouille,  Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand because those classic designs still feel modern and timeless all at once.
