G Plan Furniture

While browsing Flickr, I found out that the table I have seen at Amsterdam modern was this 1960′s “Astro” round glass top coffee table made by G Plan, a British furniture company. G Plan was launched in 1952 carrying over ever changing styles since then.

As soon as I discovered the brand, I purchased their illustrated history book that was published in 2007 from UK Amazon (now they are available here). “Catching the trend for vintage collecting, this book is an illustrated history of mass market furniture from the 1950s to the 1970s, complete with retro illustrations and advertising. With a focus on UK manufacturers, the most notable of which was G-Plan, the content will appeal to anyone with an interest in the design of those times. An artwork in itself, the book sets its design in he social and cultural context of the period and has a truly original feel.”

I am not crazy about their current furniture design, but if you are interested in their vintage ones, check out ebay or Amsterdam modern.

1950a Fashion Print & Wallpaper

“1950s Fashion Print” is the latest book I got from Amazon. This book is a great resource for fashion prints that covered the postwar designs of the 1950′s. You can see the creativity of this era with hundreds of whimsical, talented, and new approach by design greats such as Maimekko, Maija Isola, Lucienne Day, and Robert stewart. If you are studying anything related to this field, this book is an invaluable source of reference where you can find illustrations, originals art, and prints. Among the imagery you will find a nice introduction to what you are seeing.Definintely a must have.

If you want to own these amazing 50′s look in your house, the wallpaper from the Sanderson 50’s collection is the best. They features several wall papers that combines original 1950′s designs from the Sanderson archive with designs from contemporary artists who have taken great inspiration from this era.
