Wim Rietveld: Dutch Designer

Over the weekend, I stopped by Amsterdam Modern’s sale as I mentioned before and saw some of Dutch designer, Wim Rietveld‘s beautiful pieces. The picture above is the panama lamp for gispen 1956. The shade is very simple and architectural. I love the angular vibe to all of his pieces and the shapes add a lot of character to them. The color feels very dutch as they remind me of Mondrian’s palette.

From the top,
-Oase chairs designed by Wim Rietveld for De Cirkel Ahrend in 1958
-Pyramid chairs for Ahrend de Cirkel in 1960
-Colorful bookshelf for Gispen
-Original Black Painted Kit Chair from the 1970′s
-Rietvelds Imfamous Pivoting Multi-colored Wood Boxes on a Metal Stand

Kathryn Tyler: Linea Studio

These beautiful rooms are from the house of Kathryn Tyler who runs an interior design consultancy called the Linea Studio in the UK. She mainly focuses on creating distinctive, high-quality contemporary spaces with an emphasis on bespoke fittings and graphic details. Her house took about 1.2 years to complete and it was featured on the UK TV show ‘Grand Designs’ last october. If you go to ‘CORKELLIS HOUSE’ on her website, you will see a great mixture of classic and contemporary design on her house from the outside as well.

The pictures above are from her project The Falmouth Townhouse Hotel. I love her selection of colors and vintage furniture that creates a cozy atmosphere in modern hotel rooms. The neutral palette accented with a dash of vibrant color are what my eyes are drawn towards.
