California Design 1930-1965 @ LACMA

I was recently notified about a current exhibition from LACMA called “California Design: 1930-1965” which has started from October 1, 2011 but will continue til March 25, 2012. The exhibition is a great collection of mid-century work that includes over 300 objects that ranges from furniture, graphic designs, fashions, etc., It seems like the most extensive look into mid-century modern design and that era.

From what I see, the exhibition looks promising and I will get an update here after my visit.

Less and More: The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams

For those of you living in, or going to the bay area there will be an exhibition called Less and More: The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams. It will take place at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and actually started on August 27 2011 but will run until February 20, 2012. Among the many things created by Dieter Rams, you will see his sketches, products, and even prototypes. Dieter Rams in my opinion is one of the greatest product designer and this exhibit will definitely be worth a look.

Google commemorates Alexander Calder’s 113th Birthday

Have you visited google’s top page today? According to the source, “Google on Friday paid tribute to American sculptor and artist Alexander Calder with one of its trademark Google Doodles. Today is Alexander Calder’s 113th birthday. Alexander Calder who was born on July 22, 1898 is the most famous for inventing the mobile sculptures. A mobile is a type of sculpture that uses the principle of equilibrium, with rods from which weighted objects or further rods hang.”

“He is renowned for the invention of the mobile, whose suspended, abstract elements move and balance in changing harmony. Calder also devoted himself to making outdoor sculpture on a grand scale from bolted sheet steel. Today, these stately titans grace public plazas in cities throughout the world”
