Eames Catalogue Raisonne

On the Eames office website, I found some cool cover designs of the Eames catalog dated back to the 50′s to 60′s. One of my favorite is the picture above because of the way they framed the chair. Although it’s graphic and cropped, it still reads and the use of negative space is also great.

“When we say a CATALOGUE RAISONNE includes ALL of a body of work we mean EVERYTHING. As with the best Catalogue Raisonnes, our Eames Catalogue Raisonne will include not only individual illustrated listings of each design, but also, reproductions of all the original sales material in which these designs are featured.” You can download their catalog as a pdf  here.

Despite the Eames office being located very close to where I live, I keep forgetting to make a visit. I’ll probably give it a shot this weekend.

Again, just a reminder,  you can still enter for our Anniversary Give-a-way, please don’t forget to leave a comment!

Rude Osolnik: Master Wood turner

I recently found out that one of my candle holders is possibly Rude Osolnik Candlesticks. I thought they were from Denmark but Rude Osolnik was actually a well-known American wood turner since the 50′s.

Rude Osolnik created robust forms from a variety of woods in Kentucky. He is famous for being able to use figures in the wood he makes, creating a unique style that only Rude Osolnik can turn.

His sleek lined neck candles are very iconic but he also created beautiful wood pieces. I’m very happy to discover that I own one of his pieces! Available on ebay!

Vintage VW Beetle Ads

I’m always quite fond of vintage car ads, especially the VW beetle ones that are shown here. The simple layout and witty tag lines could probably still be used today.

The links below has a great archive of beetle ads, check them out!

Roland Bello: Interior Photo

Came across NY based photographer Rolland Bello‘s beautiful interior photos. He does a lot of work and campaigns for Kate Spade, Domino Magazine, Dwell magazine, Martha Stewart and so on.

I love the mood and solitary feeling he puts into his photography. His choice of an overall cool color palette suit his works well.
